Information About Zultanite How Zultanite Gems are Cut A History of Zultanite Where and How Zultanite is Mined Properties of Zultanite How to Photograph Zultanite

Gem-quality crystals were first discovered in the early 1970s, but never mined commercially until Milenyum Mining Co. obtained the deposit. Although jewelers were able to find small pieces during the nineties, fine quality crystals remained a collector's item. It is safe to say that only a handful of jewelry stores in the world were lucky enough to obtain these gems in the past.

Until recently, the gems were mined and illegally taken out of Turkey in very small quantities. These gems were sent to inexperienced cutters in the Far East and the resulting gems were of poor quality. Company founder Mr.Murat Akgun named the phenomenal gemstone Zultanite in honor of 36 Sultan's who founded the Ottoman Empire. After obtaining the legal mining and exporting license, Milenyum Mining Co. is now officially the only source in the world for this phenomenal gemstone. What was once considered a collector's gem is now accessible for fine jewelry. We are working with the most experienced and prestigious organizations in order to provide you with top quality Zultanite.

In this picture, legendary gemologist Richard T. Liddicoat of G.I.A. is admiring our award winning gemstone during the 1999 Tucson gem show. He had mentioned that it was the first such gem he had ever seen. We deeply regret that Mr. Liddicoat is no longer with us to celebrate our accomplishments.

The 26.04 carat exceptional Zultanite Mr. Liddicoat was admiring is the winner of AGTA 1995 Cutting Edge Award. It was named "Uniquely-K Apex" and cut by the supreme master cutter Stephen Kotlowski BS, GG (GIA), CSM of Newburgh, New York.

This Apex Fan shaped gem triggered and launched Zultanite's journey in the gem world.
